Utah/Idaho Trip Summer 2014

Ashley here.  Erik has been keeping this blog alive, but now it’s my turn to report.

Things worked out for the kids and I to head to Utah to visit family the first week of July.  It was a laid back trip.  We spent more than a week with my mom and was SO nice!

My sister and her little girl were in town and our trips overlapped by a day.  Not close to long enough!  I love spending time with them and can’t wait to see them again.

After Steph & Alex went home we headed to my grandparent’s farm in Southern Idaho to spend a few days.  Growing up I spent a lot of time in the summers with my grandparents so it was very nice to spend time with them.  The kids got a little taste of country life – they hauled hay, rode the 4 wheeler, picked peas out of the pea patch and had “dinner” for lunch and “supper” for dinner.

Liv loved the swing in the backyard.  I’m pretty sure it has been there over 20 years and it is still the most popular attraction for the 2 and under crowd.

Shelling peas.  Fresh peas are so yummy!

We had a hot dog roast in the fire pit in the backyard.  That brought pack a lot of memories.

Someone was playing some beautifully improvised piano music.  I walked into the living room to see Fuzz tickling the keys.

The four wheeler was very popular.  The girls rode with Great-Grandpa Meek. (Riverdale resort and neighbors farm/house in the background)

We also got to visit some family history attractions in Riverdale.  The finale was the cemetery.  It is a peaceful and beautiful place.  The cemetery's here where we live in NV are not irrigated so they are gravel or dirt covered.  I love Riverdale’s green spot on the hill.  This picture is us with my grandparents, Mom and three of my AZ Meek cousins.

4th of July weekend was an extended family reunion for my Dad’s family so we headed down to Payson after enjoying the annual 4th of July breakfast in Riverdale.  We went on a hike to Payson grotto on the 4th of July and then enjoyed the firework show at my Grandpa & Grandma’s house.  They have the best place to watch fireworks with their own show and all the fireworks in Utah Valley in the background.

On the 5th was the big reunion at my grandparent’s property in Goshen, The Sand Hill.  It was HOT!  They had a lot of fun stuff for the kids there and we had a great time.

Horse back riding.  Svea rode Bill and Liv rode Shorty.  Pure joy! (My lens cover got sand in it at the sandbox so sorry for the black borders on the pics)

Grandpa Great fed the cows while we were there so the girls could have a close up look.  Liv was especially excited and was patient until one of the shy calves would let her pet it.

Svea with Grandpa’s cows – aren’t they beautiful?

After the reunion we headed back to Mom & Dad’s house.  Dad arrived home from Alaska and we were able to spend 24 hours with him before they headed back to Japan.  It was also so nice to spend time with my sister Jenny and her husband, Riley before mom and dad left.

Before heading home to Minden we made a stop in Draper to visit Erik’s dad.  He took us up to Snowbird for a day of fun on the outdoor attractions they have there.  It was a blast!

The next morning was our uneventful drive home to NV.  It was a great trip.  I was ready to be home for awhile after all our adventures but it was so nice to see everyone and to visit Utah in the summer time.
