Surf’s Up!!!

 

So we had a great storm this weekend.  Winds in the lower 30’s.  This means waves were estimated to be between of 2-5 feet.  All small boats prone to capsizing were ordered off Lake Tahoe.  That means Ashley, the kids and me made it a point to get to the beach.  Before we got up there, we put some stickers on our Thule so that all of the other surfers would have a good idea of how hard core Ashley and I are at bodyboarding.  As you can see we were not the first people to the beach, about 10 other surfers beat us to the lake.  Only surfers in the parking lot.

 

 

So – what do you do with your kids while you are in the water?  Good thing this weekend the temperatures were in the mid 60s with no rain.  It was not uncomfortable to be outside.  Last week when we went it as mid 50s with rain.  Last time we put them in a tent, but with the high winds and the inability to place good stakes in the sand things were more difficult.  So we used the play pin.  We put some blankets in it, fill it full of snacks, and give the kids our I pods with new games on it.  The kids favorite activity is I Pods, so if they have to brave the wind and elements to get the chance to use them they are happy.  The only negative is that when you get your I Pod back, the screen has a film of kid/treat/dirt spit, all the icons are in different locations, there are 100 google searches for lL&*NTJImdi, and they have filled the memory with pictures of each other from 1 foot away, but at least they occupy their time and we can body board. (Look at the waves behind Ashley!)

The body board was as great as it has ever been.  Tons of fun.  Again, not something that you would expect on a fresh water lake, but it was a lot of fun. Look how clean the sand, water, and air look.  A great place.

So there you have it.  You would not be able to tell the difference from San Diego except the water tastes better.  Also – the water is still not freezing.  We wear the wet suits because we have them, but it was not uncomfortable.  There was a father and son (Mid 40s and 15 or so) out there having fun together.  Good father son activity.  I am wondering if that will be Soren and I in a few years?  I don’t really think that Soren will get into the fall water, so it will probably be Liv and me.  As we were packing up the father drove past me and Ashley and said “That was great! Surf Tahoe!”  That’s right – what other land locked state can you ski and surf in the same day?  Nevada!
